The NFL has announced that all its teams will now wear uniforms featuring a team logo that doesn’t have a male or female logo on the front or back.
While some teams have opted to go with a team-based design, it’s now the NFL that has gone ahead and gone gender-neutral, a statement that makes the entire league’s uniform look like a male and female logo.
While it was a bit of a shock to many NFL fans when they first heard about the move, the change was certainly welcomed by many in the industry.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement to ESPN that the decision is in line with the league’s “long-standing values” and was meant to make the league “more inclusive to everyone.”
“We have a long-standing commitment to diversity and inclusion, and I know many of you feel this as well,” Goodell said.
“As the commissioner, I’m always listening to the voices of the people I represent, and in this case, our values are reflected in our uniform choices.
As a team, we’re all about the same thing: representing the game we love and honoring our great traditions.”
The new uniforms will be the first to go on sale in the NFL in nearly two decades, and they will be available for purchase starting today at NFLShop.com.
